Woman charged with disposing gold without a license among other immigration offenses

A woman has been charged before a Nairobi court with disposing minerals without a valid licence.

Sabrin Abdikadir Mohamed alias Anzal Omar Mohamed is accused of disposing an unknown quantity of gold without a mineral dealer/trader licence on 7th April 2026 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi.

Mohamed is also accused that on 17th June 2026 at Crossroad Tower apartment in Eastleigh, Nairobi, refused to produce her passport issued by the Republic of Ethiopia

The court also heard that between 22nd May 2025 and 17th June 2026, Mohamed, being the holder of Kenyan Identity Card and a Kenyan Passport in the name of Sabrin Abdikadir Issak and the holder of Ethiopian passport in the name of Anzal Omar Mohamed, failed to declare dual citizenship in the manner prescribed in form 4 of the subsidiary legislation.

In addition, the accused person os charged with using her Ethiopia passport to enter Kenya from foreign trips and obtaining a Somali driving license in the name of Sabrin Abdikadir Issak Ali by pretending she was a Somali citizen.

According to the charge sheet, the accised person also gave false information to the Assistant Director of Immigration Services.

The court heard that on 9th April 2026 at the immigration offices at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, being a Kenyan citizen of identity card and passport registered in the name of Sabrin Abdikadir Issak, she gave false information to Daniel Murigi Nganga, the Assistant Director Immigration Services.

The information was that she was an Ethiopian citizen with a dependant pass, thereby causing the Assistant Director to clear her to enter Kenya as a foreign citizen, which he ought not to have done if the true state of facts respecting which such information was given were known to him.

She denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Theresa Nyangena.

The prosecution opposed her release on bail/bond on grounds that she is a flight risk and may flee the jurisdiction of the court should she be released on bail.

In addition, the prosecutor submitted that the accused person had declined to surrender her Ethiopian passport that she used to travel from Kenya to India.

“The accused person could use it to travel outside Kenya if released on bail,” the prosecutor added.

The court heard that the prosecution can not ascertain the identity and/or nationality of the accused person hence no known place of abode.

“We pray that the court declines granting bail/bond to the accused person at this point. If released on bond, there is every likelihood and motivation to abscond the jurisdiction of the court.”

Mohamed’s lawyer opposed the application stating that his client was not a flight risk.

The lawyer added that the police were in possession of all her documents hence no need to keep her in custody.

The magistrate will deliver the ruling on bail opposition on 24th June 2026.
