Three suspects in the All Saints Cathedral attack that occurred on 12th June 2026 during a budget review meeting will remain in custody for another 10 days to allow conclusion of investigations.
George Omondi Otieno, Effenburg Wanyama Khisa and Melvin Alumasa Bwani were arraigned before the Kibera Law Courts on suspicion of participating in an organized criminal group and conspiracy to commit a felony.
In an affidavit by investigating officer PC Carrey Odhiambo, the suspects were part of a violent group comprising of approximately 200 boda boda riders who forcefully entered All Saints Cathedral within Kilimani Sub-County and violently disrupted an ongoing meeting. thereby causing panic, mayhem, destruction, and breach of peace.
PC Odhiambo stated that police officers who responded to the incident attempted to restore order peacefully but were overpowered by the violent mob, compelling them to discharge warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd and restore calm.
“Preliminary investigations have established that the incident was organized, coordinated, and executed by several individuals acting in concert with indications of prior planning, mobilization, and facilitation,” she added.
The court heard that the three were positively identified through CCTV footage retrieved and analyzed by forensic experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, DCI Headquarters, which captured them participating in the violent disturbance.
During the operation leading to their arrest, investigators recovered a Boxer motorcycle registration number KMFH 161S, believed to have been used in the commission of the offence and which was captured in CCTV footage at the scene.
In addition, several mobile phones recovered from the respondents were seized and preserved as exhibits pending forensic examination aimed at establishing communication records, coordination, movement patterns, financial facilitation and possible links to other suspects still at large.
The investigator stated that preliminary investigations and intelligence gathered so far indicate that the respondents are members and/or associates of an organized criminal gang commonly known as “CHINI YA MNAZI,” which investigators believe was involved in the planning, mobilization, coordination, and execution of the violent disturbance at All Saints Cathedral.
“Investigators are currently undertaking criminal profiling of the respondents and other suspected members and associates of the said criminal gang with a view to establishing the gang’s structure, operational networks, financiers, communication channels, and involvement in other criminal activities within Nairobi and its environs,” the officer added.
The court heard that release of the suspects at this stage is likely to compromise the ongoing criminal profiling process, interfere with intelligence gathering, facilitate communication with other gang members still at large, and prejudice efforts aimed at dismantling the criminal network connected to the offence.
