Businessman charged with Sh 187M fraud after allegedly failing to pay for cars, milk machine

The proprietor of Daniel Outlet Company has been charged with obtaining vehicles worth 8,278,673 Japanese Yen (Aprrx. Sh 7.5 million) by false pretense.

Daniel Muriithi Waweru is accused of obtaining the vehicles from Prosper Sugai by falsely pretending that he was in a position to pay for them, a fact he knew to be false.

The vehicles include Rangerovers, Land Cruiser, Toyota Voxy, Daihatsu, Suzuki Altos among others.

Waweru is alleged to jave committed the offense on diverse dates between 8th October 2020 and 22nd June 2022 at Industrial Area in Nairobi, with intent to defraud.

In addition, the businessman is accused of obtaining an automatic milk powder packaging line valued at USD 1,413,832 (Apprx. Sh 180 million) by falsely pretending that he was in a position to pay for the said machine, a fact he knew to be false

It is alleged that he committed the offense on diverse dates between 25th January 2021 and 21st January 2024, at Industrial Area, Nairobi, with intent to defraud.

He denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben-Mark Ekhubi.

While asking for lenient bail terms, Waweru told the court that the matter arises from between him and his former employer which matter is already before court.

Waweru told the court that he had worked for the complainant for six years until recently when he opened his own business in Japan.

In addition, the accused person told the court that by the time Waweru was leaving employment, his boss had not paid his salary for over two years.

He further submitted that the complainant has already reported the matter in Japan and summons issued to him to appear in September 2025.

Waweru asked the court to grant him lenient bail terms since his business had been destroyed and he was to start from scratch.

The magistrate will deliver the bail ruling on 5th August 2025 after a pre-bail report is availed.
