A woman suspected to be a serial burglar who breaks into buildings unsuspected has been arraigned in court.
Lavender Akinyi Ogilo is accused of being found in possession of dangerous weapons to wit, claw bars, assorted screwdrivers and a Y-spanner in circumstances to indicate that she was armed with the intent to commit a felony of breaking into a building to commit a felony.
Ogilo is alleged to have committed the offense on 31st May 2026 at Parklands Court Limited along 1st Parklands Avenue in Westlands, Nairobi County jointly with others not before court.
She denied the charge before Senior Resident Magistrate Irene Thamara.
The prosecution opposed her release on bail on grounds that she has no known fixed abode hence a flight risk.
The courtl also heard that Ogilo is a serial offender as other cases against her have been reported in different police stations in Nairobi including Kilimani, Gigiri, Parklands and Spring Valley Police Stations.
The offenses reported include stealing, burglary and house break-ins.
However, her lawyer opposed the application on grounds that the affidavit relied upon by the prosecution to oppose bail was not signed.
According to the lawyer, the application was against the procedure since an unsigned affidavit can not be relied on in court.
He asked the court to grant his client a lenient bail of Sh 5,000.
The court will deliver the ruling on 3rd June 2024.
