The National Police Service has confirmed the death of police officer Benedict Kabiru Kuria who went missing in March 2025 during the Haiti Mission.
According to Citizen digital, NPS officials visited Kuria’s family in Kiambu County on 24th September 2025 and communicated his death, even though his body is yet to be found.
This was a day after the Attorney General’s office said it was not informed of Kabiru’s death contrary to remarks made by President William Ruto at a United Nations Council meeting, where he mentioned Kabiru among three officers killed under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission Haiti.
This prompted the family to file a petition seeking the State’s clarity on Kuria’s death.
In the statement made on 22nd September the President took the opportunity to honour officers Samuel Kitwai, Benedict Kabiru and Kennedy Nzuve who lost their lives in the line of duty.
In the court documents, the family accused the office of the AG of withholding information regarding the status of their kin.
In March 2025, reports of Kuria’s disappearance came to light and it was alleged that he was killed in a gang ambush at Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince.
At that time, the Kenya police dismissed reports of Kuria’s death, saying he was only missing.
