“Mr Speaker Sir” charged with unlawfully accessing Parliament, malicious damage to property worth Sh 41M

An activist popularly known as “Mr Speaker Sir” has been charged with accessing the precincts of Parliament without lawful authority during the June 2024 anti-finance bill demonstrations.

Ezekiel Kyama Nzyoki is accused that on 25th June 2024 at Parliament buildings in Nairobi, accessed the precincts of Parliament without lawful authority and in contravention of section 5 of the Parliamentary Powers and privileges Act, Chapter 6 Laws of Kenya.

Nzyoki is also charged with maliciously damaging building works, perimeter fence, mausoleum flag post, furniture, ICT & TV Screens, Kitchenware and others as per attached inventory, cars and electrical works valued at 41,248,570, the property of Parliamentary Service Commission.

The activist is said to have willfully and unlawfully committed the offense on 25th June 2025, jointly with others not before the court.

He denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Caroline Mugo and was released on a personal bond of Sh 100,000.
