Woman charged with Sh 31M fraud in Riverside apartment sale

A woman has been charged with defrauding a home buyer over Sh 31 million for an apartment along Riverside.

Jane Wairimu Ngugi is accused of obtaining Sh 31,200,040 from Francis Macharia by falsely pretending that she was in a position to sell to him an apartment at Shiloh Riverside Place Apartments, a fact she knew to be false.

Ngugi is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 30th April 2015 and 18th May 2020 in Nairobi, with intent to defraud.

She denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Liz Mutai and was granted a bod of Sh 1 million with alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000 with one contact person.

The accused person was also ordered to deposit her passport in court and not to leave the jurisdiction of the country.

The case will be mentioned on 23rd March 2026 for pre-trial.
