It is a relief for former Migori Governor Okoth Obado after after a Nairobi court allowed the Director of Public Prosecution to withdraw the Sh 73 million corruption case against him.
This is after the court allowed the plea bargain agreement between Obado and the state seeking to withdraw the case after the parties reached a consensus.
Senior Principal Magistrate Celesa Okore ruled that the agreement met the required legal threshold, noting that it had satisfied the conditions set out under the law.
According to the agreement, the former governor agreed to surrender property worth Sh 235 million for the case to be withdrawn. His lawyers had, however, pointed that the move to enter into an agreement with the DPP was not an admission of guilt.
Obado, his fourt children and 13 others had been accused of embezzling public funds while he was in office.
